With 11th edition out now and everyone getting their hands on the Armageddon box, here is a quick update on what we are doing with it at Charon Games.
Weekend games and campaigns
Weekend games are coming soon, tables are being built instead and we hope to have a soft launch by mid to late july. Once they are ready anyone can bring their armies down, roll some dice, and figure out the new rules together. It does not matter if you are a veteran or just starting out, the tables will be open for casual play and learning the new system.
We are also sorting out a narrative campaign and running some painting competitions soon to get everyone motivated to finish their new models. So keep an eye on socials for this!
New rules on the table
We have been digging into the new core rules and there are some big changes to how games will play. Cover is completely different now, it worsens the attacker's Ballistic Skill characteristic by 1 instead of changing your armor save. There is also a new Hidden rule for infantry in dense terrain, meaning if you haven't shot yet, the enemy cannot even see you unless they get within a 15 inch detection range.
Objectives are also tied directly to terrain footprints now, so you just have to be inside that terrain area to control it. Even transports got a massive shake up with different disembark options, including a Combat Disembark where you can jump out up to 6 inches away and land straight into engagement range to fight.
The store intro box
We are slowly getting the armageddon box ready for the store. It is going to be on display and fully playable on our tables. If you have friends who want to get into the hobby or you want to learn yourself, this will be our go-to introduction to Warhammer 40k.
Starting Aeldari
Since the refresh this has been looking more tempting... Keep an eye open for an update on this... ( I really don't need another project...)
What we want to see next
Armageddon is a great start, but hopefully Games Workshop updates these armies next:
- Drukhari: They really need some love. Some of the models are getting pretty old now, so new kits and better rules to make them feel like real raiders would be massive for the game.
- Grey Knights: They just need a proper scale update. If they get sized up to match the modern Space Marines they would look awesome on the table instead of looking a bit short next to the newer models.
