The Order of the Shield took it upon itself to protect man from its most dangerous predators. Elevated to the rank of Imperial Magistrates, the Errant Knights of the Shield worked as judge, jury, and executioner. Though the nobility sought to destroy them after the last Emperor's death, a few continue their thankless task, protecting the citizens of the Hundred Kingdoms from all who would prey upon them.
